How Can Ichthyosis Vulgaris Be Treated?

I am 55 years old, with Icthiosis Volgaris. When I was a teanager I was prescribed what I recall was 12% Salicylic acid lotion. I am trying to exfoliate the skin cells on my legs where the Icthiosis is the worst, so I thought I would give 12% S. A. Lotion a try again. My family physician said that 6% is the highest % available. Am I remembering the concentration wrong, or have they lowered the % to 6 for some reasons? Are there any new developments in the treatment of Icthiosis Volgaris? Thanks for any help, Mike

hi sir, dont worry.both of you are right.the 12% preparation is actually ammonium lactate.it is used to hydrate the skin.you can use it.6% is salicylic acid.it is used to remove scales or exfoliate.so,you can use both of these medications topically.moisturisers containing lower strength urea(10-20%) and propylene glycol can also be used.i advise my patients above medicines and also ask them not to use any steroids as they dont have any role.hope your doubts are clarified.if any queries,i'm always happy to answer.take care.bye.
