How Can Infected Skin On The Upper Lip Be Treated?

Hello- my 23 year old son pulled out an infected mustache area hair that appeared infected- now less then 24 hours later one side of his upper lip is swelling up pretty nicely- would not be such a big deal but he is home from the Army and we plan to snorkel in the next two days- what is his best option?

Hello
Thanks for the query.
Probably he has developed folliculitis.
It is a bacterial infection.
Upper lip infection is dangerous and must be promptly treated.
Infection from this area can reach brain.
I treat such cases with a combination of oral and topical antibiotics.
A combination of tablet cefixime 200 mg twice daily and ointment mupirocine to be applied twice daily for a week should be helpful.
Meet a doctor and get these prescribed.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
I find this answer helpful
