How Can Infertility Due To PCOS Be Treated?

I ve been trying to conceive for 11 months now and had a miscarriage in early August after which I was diagnosed with PCOS when I went to the doctor to find out why I was only having a period every 2-3 months. I ve asked two different doctors if there is anything they can give me to help me conceive and both have been unwilling to provide any help or give me a referral to a gynecologist. I want to try clomiphene, as I don t ovulate on my own and have almost been trying to conceive for 12 months. Are you able to provide any advice as to what I should do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
PCOS is very complex disease and will be manage best by the gynecologist only.
I also suggest to consult the best gynecologist in your area and undergo reproductive hormone analysis for better management.
Following are the main aims of the PCOS treatment:
Regularise the period by treating hormone imbalance, decrease the insulin resistance, decrease weight and treatment of infertility..
Doctor will give following medicines:
Tablet Metformin: for maintain glucose homeostasis and weight, induce ovulation
Oral contraceptive pills: regular the menstrual cycle
Clomiphene citrate for 4-5 days in starting days of cycle: to induce ovulation and maintain fertility
FSH hormone or FSH analogue for infertility treatment.
If medicine will not responds then In vitro fertilization will helpful

Diet: take small frequent meal rather large meal
Avoid fatty/spicy/salty foods
Avoid excessive sweets
Start regular exercise for 45-60 minutes in the morning

Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
