How Can Inflammation After A Rectal Tag Removal Be Treated?

I had an anal skin tag removed as well as a rectal tag connected to it (can t remember the term my colorectal dr used for it) - removal was Tuesday - it is now Thursday. Directly after the removal and through most of the rest of the day, I was uncomfortable and sore - but more tolerable than what I experienced a month before when I had internal hemorrhoids cut out a month ago, took a Percocet when I got home which did nothing for me when I had had surgery so I could tell the pain was definitely gonna be less. The next Day Wednesday was pain free through the most of the day, bowel movement in the morning presented minimal blood (cple drops) and no pain whatsoever so I didn t take any Percocet, just Aleve and Colace for stool softening. Was able to go walk on the treadmill at the gym, but took the day off of any weights. Things started to change about early evening when I started feeling more in the area. Not particularly painful, but a burning type sensation and the gauze was definitely needing to be changed constantly as it was getting pretty bloody. Took a sitz bath and when I looked down the tub was red - which was alarming as I didn t even experience much blood from my hemorrhoid removal (which itself was very painful.) Burning sensation and discomfort with muscle spasms is tolerable but more than it had been - still didn t take another Percocet bc it was tolerable. Now its Thursday morning, bowel movement had a lot of blood - chalked it up as normal. Took sitz bath after and it was clear. Not even 30 mins later tho I had to change gauze as it was blood soaked, cleaned the area and put in more gauze. Is this normal? what else can I do to aide in healing or should I contact my Dr - he IS very responsive, but I don t want to bother him too much if this is just the normal course of it all.. thanks in advance!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per the case details, the area of skin tag removal is under healing process.

* Apart from above measures of sitz bath, medications, keeping stool soft to avoid friction, I recommend to apply Polymycin cream 3 times a day for faster recovery.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
