How Can Inflammation On The Tongue Be Treated?

Taking Cephalexin (800 mg) 4x/day, Amlodipine (10 mg) 1x/day, and Floranex-Lactobacillus 2x/day after having been in hospital for seven days with diagnosis of Group A Streptococcus following the passing of a kidney stone and blood found in urine. Came home on Friday (11/03/2017) and began the oral regimen...antibiotic for two weeks. Noticed some stinging earlier today and just now noticed tongue red down the center and lips seem dry. Drinking variety of liquids...Sprite, iced tea, cranberry, water. Next dose of antibiotic (Cephalexin) is midnight. Will call pharmacy in the morning but wondering if there is anything I should do until then? Thank you.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Redness of tongue along with dryness and irritation or stinging is a common side effect of a number of medication.

Amlodipine can cause dry mouth that in-turn an cause soreness and inflammation..

Antibiotics can also cause inflammation and if there is white layer on tongue it can be an yeast overgrowth or thrush..

So my suggestion is to start doing warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
You can suck ice pops and do cool water rinses to reduce inflammation.
You can gargle with specialised mouthwash like Magic Mouthwash.
Avoid spicy and irritant foods..
You should also get clinically examined by an Oral Physician to see for yeast infection..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
