How Can Insomina While Suffering From Anxiety Be Treated?
My daughter was given Lexapro 10 mg to take once a day for anixety. She has taken 2 days but is still not sleeping at all. This is about day 7 with only 1 or 2 hours each night . Can she take an over the counter sleeping pill with the Lexapro? My email is YYYY@YYYY Thank you
Lexapro (esitalopram) is a very good medication for anxiety. It takes around 2 weeks for it to start to give an effect though so she just needs to take it regularly as prescribed and it will help her with her sleep. A drug that can be combined with it and that does not cause dependence is Zolpidem, which she may use the next few days till Lexpro starts to have its effect.
On the other hand helping her with some counseling is advisable. Also she needs to go for walks, do some exercise regularly, eat healthy, avoid coffee or energy drinks or alcohol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
