How Can Insomnia During Menopause Be Treated?

I am 63 yrs old, and am having a terrible time sleeping due to menopausal symptoms. Those are getting hot then cold, over and over. I ve been taking flurazepam, 15 Mg., for about 10 yrs.to help me sleep. It helps most of the time, but for the last year or so, I m having more trouble sleeping. I still work 4 days a week. So I talked to my doctor yesterday, and he added Trazodone 50 mg. I went to sleep, but woke up at 1 a.m. and took 3 hrs. to doze off again. I wonder if I could take Premarin? There is no cancer at all in my family. I am willing to do almost anything to sleep again!! thank you

Hello,

Since you are already on medications I will suggest you some supportive treatments which could help you sleep. Take warm milk before you sleep. If you do not like milk or cannot take it for some reason take banana. Both milk, banana, and also nuts has tryptophan which will help you relax and sleep.

Regular exercise like walking will also help you sleep, 30 to 40 minutes per day for the 5 days in a week, only if you do not have any limitations set by your doctor for any exercise. Make this walking routine during early morning sunshine or early evening sunlight between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Oat meal also has tryptophan. Try using some organic jasmine aromatic room fresheners in your bedroom or some jasmine organic oil massage and bath before you sleep. This also helps in calming you down and helps you sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jasmine Jagan
