How Can Irregular Bowel Movement Be Treated?

I have very irregular bowel movements in spite of daily dosages, about 3-4 tablespoons of wheat fiber powder. I am 80 years old and have been shown an exray of my colon, very small and squiggled. will drinking more water daily help my situation? I have been using magnesium citrate when 7 or more days pass without activily. Stool softeners are no use.

Hi,

Irregular bowel movement (BM) at your age (80 years old) are due to slow metabolism and foods/drinks you consume daily.

Yes, increasing water and fluids intake will help regulate BM. Not recommended to take Magnesium Citrate on regular basis. Instead, Psyllium or Plum fiber supplement can help together with increased water intake. Gentle laxatives like senna candies can also help.

Try to do some short walking after each meal to help BM.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
