How Can Itching And Swelling On The Wrist Be Treated?

Hello Dr.About three days ago, I felt my wrist itching and scratched it while half asleep. In the morning, the skin below my thumb on the back of my hand was swollen and pudgy. It is still itching with a 1.0 inch red spot with tiny bumps. Not itching bad, but alarming because the swelling is not going away. I am concerned it may be contagious or could affect my health--I have experience two very piercing headaches in the night since then. What might you suggest? I am planning on seeing my Dermatologist as soon as he can see me. But I am concerned right now.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sounds like you could have got an allergic infection like scabies.
The swelling could be due to the constant itching.
You must visit your dermatologist for a thorough review.
They will put you on topical and oral medications.
If it is scabies, they will advice treatment for the whole family as well.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
