How Can Itchy And Painful Insect Bites On The Ankles Be Treated?

I have insect bites down by my ankles and they have swelled up. they are extremely itchy and some what painful. I have place on anti-itch cream and have just taken a benedril, is there anything further I should do? I am at work at this time. YYYY@YYYY

Hi.
As per your case history of insect bite my advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain.
5. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
