How Can Itchy Bumps On The Body Due To Scabies Be Treated?

Hello. Our family moved to Shanghai 8 weeks ago, and my daughter, 13, has contracted scabies. She was seen in an international health clinic, saw a dermatologist and prescribed Crotamiton cream. (Permethrin cannot be dispensed here). We were all treated X 3 days. The itching has subsided, but new bumps are appearing. Does this mean treatment was ineffective? Does she need to take oral med, Ivermectin? I know bumps can last up to 4 weeks, but should spreading occur after treatment. Your help is appreciated. ,

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Scabies is in all your clothes and house and must be done general disinfection. You may have treated scabies but your girl might have taken it again from the objects in the house and might need a new treatment with permethrin. I recommend you to see the doctor again.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Anila Skenderi, General & Family Physician
