Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What medicine (prescription or otherwise) is available that will help control constant running and itching eyes and constant runny nose and sinus drainage? Neither Zyrtec, Allegra or Claritin do anything for me. Mucinex D is the only thing that will help with the congestion. Is there any prescription medication available to help? Thank you.
The plain antihistamines, zyrtec , claritine or allegra would not be helpful, you would need zyrtec d, allegra d or claritine d. The decongestant, 'd' , would help with the runny nose and sinus drainage.
This should be combined with a topical steroidnasal spray such as nasonex, nasocort, flonase. One of these would require a prescription.
These symptoms are usually in response to an allergic response if you can determine the source of your allergic reaction, then avoiding contact would also be helpful. This can be done by allergy blood or skin tests.
I hope this helps
