Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Itchy Rashes All Over The Body Be Treated?
My husband has a rash from head to toe - everywhere. We went to 15 dermatologists over 6 yrs. None of them can diagnose or give him a treatment that helps in any way. It is extremely itchy and keeps him up at night. He has been given ultra violet ray machine, steroids, oral medications and different creams. NOTHING HELPS. His is very dry and the rash is pink and bumpy like chicken skin.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It seems like your husband could be suffering from some forms of dermatitis or psoriasis.
In my opinion, you should do the following:
1. Ensure that your husband isn't taking any drugs that he may be allergic to. 2. Rule out psoriasis as the cause of this rash. 3. If it is psoriasis then consult your doctor for Psoralen with UV therapy. 4. Consult your doctor about other forms of therapy like intramuscular or intravenous steroids, methotrexate or immunomodulators like Cyclosporine. 5. Undergo a test to determine if you are allergic to a particular agent. 6. Use drugs like Hydroxyzine to help decrease the itching. Use calamine lotion to keep the skin calm.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
