How Can Itchy Rashes On The Body Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with hives. I haven t eaten anything out of the ordinary. We recently stayed a hotel for a few days. We ve been home for 2 days & I still have outbreaks every few hours. I am taking 25mg Benadryl & alos prednisone. As soon as the Benadryl wears off the itchiness starts again. How long does it take for this to go away?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Hives seems to be most probably due to allergic reaction and in case if it happened after your hotel stay then it can be probably due to bug bites while can also be due to any soaps or detergents while allergy to leather, latex, poison ivy or mite infestation like Scabies can be a cause..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc while testing your blood for infections can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

The tests will help in ruling out the exact cause of the hives and treated accordingly.

In case of allergy as the diagnosis you can be advised to oral anti allergics as well as injectable steroids for relief..

As of now you can take anti-allergics like Levocetrizine, Allegra to control the itching and swelling..
Do cool compresses..
Application of calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
