Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took my 37 yr old daughter to the emergency room Wednesday morning. She was diagnosed with multiple kidney stones in both kidneys and a 5mm stone in the tube connecting to her bladder. She still has not passed the stone, will she be able to pass this on her own and how long should it take?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A Stone less than 5 mm in the urinary tract can be removed by conservative or flush therapy. However, you have mentioned multiple kidney stones in both kidneys hence, this definitely requires surgical removal.
We cannot take chances for spontaneous removal of stone fear because of fear of acute or chronic renal failure. So, please consult surgeon or urologist for proper planning and guidance for surgical removal of stones.
Both open and laparoscopic techniques are available. You can choose whatever as per your convenience.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
