General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read your message and understood your medical problem.

I see you have gone through 3 knee surgeries during your childhood and right cerebral palsy.

Physical therapy, exercise, and medicines that help the muscles to relax can help a lot to improve your cerebral palsy. Exercising can put your knee under a little pressure but it is necessary to keep your muscles and nerves fit.

I see you are 49 years old which means that you are close to menopause. Pre-menopausal women are predisposed to have some general disorders even muscle and joint weakness. As your right knee is weaker than the other because of the surgeries is the first one to have pain.

Ice you knee to slow inflammation and protect it from damage while you are exercising. Do not put pressure on it and always take rest when you see that you are tired. But avoid excessive resting. Too much time without moving your knee can progress the pain too after you re-start moving.

Try to lose weight and use a walking aid like knee splints or braces. You can take over the counter pain killer to help you with pain. Acupuncture can also give relief.

In case of further damage or if other symptoms develop see an orthopedic surgeon.

Hope this was helpful,
Dr.Albana
