How Can Knee Pain Caused By An Injury Be Treated?

I hurt my two knees last Friday skiing. I am a 50 yr old woman. I fell and both my knees were pointing outwards. I fell some minor pain, stopped, and was able to ski again. Upon coming home, which was a2 hr drive from d resort, the pain got intense. I was able to wLk, but like a penguin. Went to ER the next day, had knee X-ray and no bone damage was seen, which is wahT I thought. I ask about the ligaments and they say mri is needed for that. Dr said he didn t think its ligament otherwise I wont be able to even stand and walk. I donn think it s really serious but he said if I think/ feel it s getting worse, I shld see an ortho. I feel like its age, my joints lack d lubricant it needs. Any thoughts? I want to be able to continue to ski. Not a seasoned skier, just enjoy doing it with my family, thanks. Am still in some minor pain. Not taking any pain reliever now, but did new yrs eve. Pain is tolerable, only when knees are getting bent that it hurts. Still walk like a penguin. Have a bit difficulty coming up and down the stairs. Can manage though.

Hello,my name is dr Dorina Gurabardhi. Some treatment for knee pain due to injury are:
-Rest and protect an injured or sore area. Stop, change, or take a break from any activity that may be causing your pain or soreness. When resting, place a small pillow under your knee.
-Ice will reduce pain and swelling. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Apply the ice or cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 or more times a day.
-Compression, or wrapping the injured or sore area with an elastic bandage (such as an Ace wrap), will help decrease swelling.
-Elevate the injured or sore area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down. Try to keep the area at or above the level of your heart to help minimize swelling.
-Gently massage or rub the area to relieve pain and encourage blood flow. Do not massage the injured area if it causes pain.
-Medicine you can buy without a prescription
Acetaminophen, such as Tylenol
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs):
Ibuprofen, such as Advil or Motrin
Naproxen, such as Aleve or Naprosyn
Aspirin
Contact a general physician if it doesnt get better.Hope my answer helped you, thanks !
