How Can Knee Twisting Pain, Worse On Bending Be Treated?

Please type your query here...I get this twisting pain in my knee.It is mostly at night when i am trying to sleep and it wakes me up with extreme pain.it feels like it is being twisted in two different directions.this has been going on for about a year.I forgot to ask my dr about it when i went to see him.Do you have any idea what it could be?I have to straighten my leg when this happens because if i bend it it gets worse.
