How Can Knuckle Swelling With Stiffness And Pain Be Treated?

Hi My knuckle is swollen, stiff and causing me intense pain. This has happened before (about two years ago, at about the same time). It has lasted for about two weeks now and the pain and stiffness gets worse at night. What could be causing this? Thanks
