Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had laryngitis for 5 months, the ENT has not determined the cause. He has ruled out allergies and acid reflux. He did say the larynx was sluggish on one side, he didn’t say which side. I had a right temporal lobectomy about 7 years ago. I have had 3 or 4 bouts of laryngitis that have lasted a few months since then. It has always started in spring and is gone before September. Any guesses? I am a teacher. I need my voice.
1. as you have taken an ENT opinion and allergy and acid reflux has been ruled out, even then take a second opinion to exclude other causes of laryngitis like chronic sinusitis, bacterial/ fungal/ parasitic infection to complex causes like vocal cord strain/injury or growth.
2. Meanwhile, take i. Voice rest, soft diet, avoid spicy food. ii. lukewarm saline mouthwash gargles. iii. vitamin C tablets and zinc supplements [zinc lozenges]
PS. you can ask for prescription medicine(s) like aconitum, Argentum nitricum, causticum, phosphorus in hourly dosage at 6C, 12C or 30C potencies
