My wife is being kept up all night with recurring leg cramps. On the recommendation of friend, she has been taking MSM powder orally. Her calfs seems to keep twitching, and she can t seem to get rid of the cramps, and this isjkeeping everyone awake for the entire night. What is causing this, and what can be done to alleviate the problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Recurring cramps can occur due to different causes such as electrolyte disorder (abnormal levels of calcium, magnesium, sodium or potassium), dehydration, side effect of medication, neurological disorder.

Since there are multiple causes, it would be best for her to be assessed by her doctor because in addition to physical examination, she may need blood tests and imaging of the spine (to assess nerves in this area).

I hope this helps
