Hello,
I read your message carefully and understood your medical problem.
Typhoid is also known as the traveler's diarrhea. It is mostly caused by pathogens affecting the gastrointestinal tract which may involve some bacteria, parasites and even viruses.
The causative agent is usually suspected depending on the region you recently have traveled or the place you live. Usually, this condition is self-limited and it goes away within a week.
It may be associated with other symptoms as well like a headache, body temperature,
vomiting etc.
Diarrhea is the major manifestation and it usually lasts 3 to 4 days but sometimes it may last longer. Cases of
chronic diarrhea are very rare.
In this cases, it lasts more than 3 months and it can cause the post-infectious irritable syndrome. The bowel keeps being fragile and irritated due to small lesions in the mucosa and the bowel motions will keep being loose and you may feel tired for a longer period of time.
In your case, your post-typhoid period may be due to the light diet you decided to keep after the infectious episode. Diet is very important for recovery.
You may feel tired because you may not be taking enough calories throughout the day and the light food you are taking may be the cause of the loose stools you are having.
Having loose stools once a day is not considered diarrhea. If you have them more than 3-4 times a day than this means the diarrhea is back.
You need to increase the amount of food and calories you are taking. Add carbs like fruit juices, rice, bananas, and apples are very helpful. You need more
proteins.
As you do not have diarrhea anymore you can add eggs, yogurt, fish, and chicken. Your doctor was right when he told you that you can eat anything. The only thing you have to avoid is spicy food, junk foods, and too many fibers as these foods may irritate the bowel.
If you see that the bowel movements are increased or somewhat the diarrhea is back, please see your doctor as the infection may have come back and you may need a stool examination to identify the cause.
Hope this is helpful for you.
Thank you.
