How Can Loud Tinnitus In Both Ears For The Past 15 Years Be Treated?

My husband has had tinnitus in both ears for at least 15 years. Last week he started hearing very loud noise in his left ear. It is unbearable. He can t sleep or get any relief. It s been very bad over the past two days. Should he be overly concerned ?

You are having tinnitus with loud noise in the ear which can be caused by many factors like stress, increased blood pressure, inner ear infection and due to age-related hearing loss.

I would suggest you consult ENT specialist once for proper examination. The doctor may order a certain test like audiometry, CT scan, low and high pitched ringing to rule out conditions like hearing loss, exposure to loud noises, earwax buildup and ear infection. The physician may remove wax and prescribe antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications.

For now do mind relaxing exercises like meditation, yoga. Avoid pricking ear or cleaning with a tip. Apply gentle warm compresses on external ear.
