Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 year old had a flu shot this morning at 11:30am however did have a low grade fever prior to it (37.4). Directly after the shot he felt nausea on the way home like he wanted to vomit and a headache, achy body and heavy headed. He now has a high resting heartrate of around 130 beats per minute. He seems ok in himself, I have given him nurofen however his current temp is 38.4.
Regarding your concern, I would explain that the fever related to the flu shot, is self limited, which means that it will not get too high.
Although Nurofen does not seem to be very effective, I would recommend alternating it every 4 hours with acetaminophen.
Using cold pads and baths will also definitely help.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
