Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m on oxygen and why is it that without oxygen that my oxygen level drops when I move around. I just had a right and left heart catheterization and I don t have any blockage and was told to consult with my lung doctor. In January 2016 I was in critical condition I had double pneumonia and respiratory failure and was put on life support for 3 weeks I stayed in the hospital for 3 months. I was off of oxygen for about 7 months and now I m back on oxygen since May of 2017. Can you explain to me what can be the problem my lung doctor said that he needs the numbers from the heart cath to make a decision.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
In case of COPD or intestinal lung disease or pneumonia or anemia case the environmental oxygen exchange with CO2 is diminished due to damage to oxygen exchange area in the lungs so even sufficient amount of oxygen is there in environment not reach the blood. Other possibilities like decreased respiratory drive or infection, cardiac problem may lead to fluid in lungs lead to decreased surface area of lungs for exchange.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
