How Can Lump Like Feeling In The Throat Be Treated?

I have had chronic throat congestion following a cold for nearly three months. It feels like a constant lump in my throat I can’t swallow and causes hoarseness. I was just referred to an ENT Dr and have to wait another month for that appointment. The symptoms are driving me crazy and make it difficult to sleep. What could be causing this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering from globus sensation in the throat may be due to gastroesophageal reflux disease or granular pharyngitis or tonsil or stone or malignancy, etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid cool drinks and freeze water, avoid smoking and alcohol intake. Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
