How Can Memory Loss Caused By A Head Injury Be Treated?
My husband was assaulted, hit in the back of the head with a brick, kicked in the head and face after the first blow made him lose consciousness. He has had memory problems ever since. There seems no pattern of what he remembers and doesn t, he remembers events of childhood but doesn t remember events of our wedding (27 years ago). He is 52. Should we try to help him remember? He s trying to fake remembering and gets a bit anxious when we talk about it. Is there a protocol or therapy for memory loss after a severe brain bleed?
Hello there I have read through your question and understand your concern. You have not mentioned whether your husband had got CT scan or MRI scan done to assess the severity and site of the injury. It seems your husband is suffering from anterograde amnesia where long term memory is preserved. It can be properly assessed by a neurosurgeon. The return of memory varies from person to person. Though subtle efforts towards helping him to remember may help him but too much pressure should not be put on him as it may cause unnecessary anxiety and frustration. Regular therapy by a certified therapist can help him to get his memory back. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
