Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has recently been diagnosed with an Arachnoid Cyst by CT reflecting 2.5x1.5 cm. Then Confirmed by a MRI a week later showing a 3.1x1.3 CM in the Right Frontal Lobe. He is only 11 years old and is highly athletic, however since dx he has been put on restrictive measures that result in him not being allowed any sports. The first NeuroSurgeon he has been referred to had refused to see him, he is now being referred to another Neurosurgeon outside the area. He developed Migraines a year ago and blurred vision. He also has concentration issues and short term memory loss. I am confused as to what can be done to help him? If no intravenous tx is decided upon will he always not be able to play sports? He has been quite down and out since the restrictions were put in place.
I do not think there is a need for neurosurgery intervention as arachnoid cyst remain so for many years without any change. He needs regular follow up from the neurosurgical point of view.
However, to treat a migraine and blurred vision there is need to see a neurologist as an arachnoid cyst in the frontal lobe is unlikely to be cause for blurred vision.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashok Kumar, Psychiatrist
