I am currently taking Arimidex daily and have been having increased joint pain in my hands and wrists. I have also been have more leg muscle cramps. I know this is most likely a side effect of the meds but what can I take to ease the pain of the joint aches. I have been on the meds since sept 2015.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Mam the drug that you are takging has an important adverse effect in the form of weakening of bones called osteoporosis..A DEXA scan is must to confirm the same..As for treatment you may proceed with following
1.Muscle strengthening exercises as the same would pull the bones making it stronger
2.Adequate intake of milk and milk products
3.Tab Calcium 500 mg twice daily
4.Sachet Vitamin D 60000 IU once a week
5. Tab Risphos(Risendronate) 150 mg once a month with full glass of water in sitting position
Risophos must be taken after an evidence of osteoporosis is confirmed on scan
Also for acute attack of pain you may take Tab Indomethacin SR 75mg once a day
