How Can Muscle Spasms In The Rib Cage Be Treated?

I guess I had a muscle spazam along my left cage so you could not even touch it. The doctor at the hospital gave me some for 3 days to take it. Was this enough time for it? I am still eperience a lot of discomfort to my left side that you cannot touch it. Also prescribed a lidocaune patch which I did not order because it costs $170.00 for the patches

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The most important treatment to relieve you of the intercostal muscle spasm is to give it rest.

Please avoid all strenuous activity. Hot fomentation, infra-red light therapy, light massage with a pain balm is fine.

It would take about 5 to 7 days for the spasm to be relieved, and you to feel fine. Please only take pain medication, if very much needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
