How Can Nasal Polyps Be Treated In A Child?

Hi, my 4 year old son was diagnosed with nasal polyps tonight at our local hospital. For the past couple months he s been sniffing constantly. I ve tried nasal sprays but that hasnt worked. I thought it was maybe allergies or possibly a developing habit. He also started blowing his nose very hard for the past month, as if he was trying to force an object to come out. Tonight he started crying and began screaming that something was stuck and needed to blow his nose which is what led to our ER visit. I want to resolve this problem quickly. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Symptoms could be due to nasal polyp that cause nasal obstruction.

Polyp is an abnormal growth of mucous membrane.
I would suggest to consult ENT specialist and undergo nasal endoscopy and CT PNS scan to know the pattern and extent of polyp.
Following treatment will useful:
saline nasal wash such as Saltnase/ Netiwash
Alkaline nasal douching
steroids and anti allergic nasal sprays
If not responds then final option is
Balloon Sinuplasty and Office based Micro-debrider polypectomy.
So treatment will depend on CT scan image of PNS.
Hope this may help you

Contact further HCM if follow up needed
Best regards
