How Can Nausea Be Treated?

My 18 year old daughter is on Day 3 of her tonsillectomy. She is in great pain. percocet helps the pain but also makes her throw up, usually 15 minutes or so after taking it. Something to help with nausea of this drug? Tried eating, not eating, lots of water, ginger ale, honey... anything else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pain is common after tonsillectomy. We generally prescribe cold gargling and painkillers like Ibuprofen 3 or 4 times a day. Vomiting is mostly not a problem with Ibuprofen or Ponstan. With Procet, the opioid can cause nausea and vomiting. Either we replace this with Ibuprofen (non-opioid painkiller) or if necessary you can take some antiemetic with it like gravinate for the vomiting.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
