How Can Numbness And Tingling On The Finger Be Treated?

About six days ago I shut my pinky finger in a wooden door. The injury was on the joint of the last digit. It left an indentation for approximately 24 hours but did not break the skin. However, I have been experiencing constant numbness/tingling on the inside of the finger in the last digit. I am able to feel sensation on the skin. I have only slight bruising on the joint of the finger. At what point should I seek an appointment for some type of imaging? Is watchful waiting ok?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There could be certain nerve and blood vessel damage due to injury which could be causing symptoms of numbness and tingling. Kindly wait for a week and observe for it to be back to normal. In the meantime, you can take Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C containing capsule once a day. You can apply moisturizer cream over the affected area externally. Gradually, you should recover back to normal. In case symptoms does not improve or worsens, you need to seek help by consulting Orthopedician promptly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
