Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you. My husband is here with me. Bob broke his left hip last year. Since the surgery in June 2016, his leg has been numb from about the knee down. He wears a brace that goes into his shoe and under his foot. Then it straps around the upper calf. When his brace is off, he can walk, but his foot kind of flops. Bob can t feel it if you touch his foot but the further up his leg, the more feeling. He says the outside of his calf is so sensitive, he rubbed against the couch to miss the coffee table and he pulled away from it like it was on fire. He said it felt like it was on fire! Here s the question....is there any way to help his foot regain feeling? Or anything we can do to help the calf de-sensitize? Thank you for your time and patience!
You need to go to a neurologist. Whatever you are aking is the nerve which has been damaged earlier is difficult to recover. If it has been completely damaged then its impossible to be grown. So nerve growth factors if tried also 50%chances that nerve might grow. There are many nerve growth factors under trial for this type of condition which can be tried but that neurologist should prescribe. He does few nerve conduction studies also. For now, ask him to take vitamin b 12 tablets which can heal the nerves.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
