Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Girlfriend injured her ankle (May have a fracture), 5 days ago. She put her foot up on a door to open it and someone came out with probably 30 pounds of ice on a moving cart and forced her toes towards her shins. We have been to an urgent care center, and they couldn t decide if she had a fracture or not. They told her to wrap it and gave her an air cast and an ace bandage. The swelling came down today and her foot is now cold to the touch, from about the middle to her toes. She is 18, but her x-rays showed Poor joint spacing (if it matters). I m very worried about her foot becoming cold and a little numb, is there anything to do about it?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Make sure that the cast is not too tight as tight dressing can compromise the blood flow and thus cause numbness. As per your description it seems there is no fracture and all she is having is some minor sprain or contusion. Some degrees of numbness is quite common. If the numbness is severe and is there any weakness consult an orthopedic to rule out nerve damage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
