How Can Oral Thrush Be Treated?

I have what I believe to be oral thrush. The entire inside of my mouth seems infected with it, even going down my esophagus. I have a dry cough, which I believe to be related. Is there anything short of prescribed medications to treat this effectively?

Hello,

It would be better if you had explained why you think you have oral thrush as there are many white lesions that look like oral thrush but might be something else. However, the best way to confirm oral thrush is to try to scrape the white area and if it scrapes off leaving red area beneath, then you are right in your assumption that you have oral thrush.

I would recommend taking antifungal medication for the thrush. You can take Fluconazole 150 mg (Fole) once a day for 10 days. Good oral hygiene measures and lots of fluids will help in faster recovery.

However, if it does not decrease or disappear in 10 days, you should visit a dentist for the clinical examination of the area along with investigations such as culture.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
