Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello! I am a healthy, active 63 year old female with a small frame. I have been post menopausal for several years and based on my latest DEXA exam I am in the osteoporosis zone both in my hip and spine. Darn. My doctor has prescribed Evista but my sister, younger than I, is using the CombiPatch. I am researching both medications . I am tempted to ask my doctor for 1 or 2 years where I can really step up my weight-bearing exercise and calcium intake to see if I can stop the progression. Any suggestions???
Yes, if the DEXA scan shows evidence of osteoporosis, then you need to take Avesta. These drugs are quite effective in treatment of osteoporosis. Yes, you need to take calcium and vitamin D supplements, along with Avesta. Generally, two years of treatment is needed but it works quite well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
