Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I think.i have otitis externa I have been doing a lot of research and the symptoms are.similar. my ear canal Is itchy And mildly painful and some swelling. I over clean my ears with cotton swabs and my saliva. Also i listen to loud music on my headphones how do i treat it? What do you suggest?
The first thing that you should do is to stop cleaning your ear with saliva as it is not the correct way. It will add up to moisture in your ears and can lead to infection. As of now your ear appears infected, so in this case you should consult an Emergency room or an Otorhinolaryngologist and get checked.
You can be advised a course of antibiotics to be taken orally along with it you should use antibiotic ear drops. Avoid loud music and long time wearing of the earphones. Keep the ear clean but using ear buds should be limited to once a day to every alternate day. Also keep the ears clean and dry.
Till the infection resolves avoid swimming if you do and keep the ears clean and dry. Do not self treat as the infection may tend to spread. You should also disinfect the earpiece of your earphones.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora, Dentist
