How Can Pain And Discomfort In The Diaphragm Be Treated?

I just had surgery three weeks ago, I had my colon removed. While in the hospital I had 20 separate hiccup fits, some lasted 2 hours. The pain was excruciating, I even pasted out once. My diaphragm is very sore and it is very hard to get comfortable to sleep. Taking a deep breath is difficult but doable. What can I do to heal my diaphragm??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The discomfort on diaphragm is related to the hiccup episode that caused severe stretching of diaphragm muscles. Should apply warm compresses on your chest and epigaster.

Take antacids after meals. Should consider stomach hyperacidity. Apply analgesic cream locally. Discuss this further with your caring doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Albana Sejdini,
