How Can Pain And Infection On The Toe Nail Be Treated?

I had my kitchen garbage can fall on my foot on Sunday. I went to the doctor and got xray. Thank God eI have no fracture or broken toe. Its my left BIG toe. I was prescribed Naproxen for the pain 500MG To be taken twice a day. I only take it when I m going to bed. well I m still experiencing Pain, Throbbing and I can see the is puss under the skin. My nail has been bruised as well. am I going to lose this Toenail and I feel so much pressure on that toe. I feel like puncturing with a pin to let some of that puss out which will relieve the pressure I m feeling. Please advise?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The throbbing pain is due to pressure built by the toe nail on the pus collection. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for release of pus under aseptic conditions to avoid further infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
