How Can Pain And Swelling In The Big Toe Be Treated?

Yes I am a 55 year old man with gout and about 3 weeks ago I bought some new steel toe work boots and now my left big toe is swollen and sore. It has gotten better over the weekend but still sore. Also Thursday last week I went to my doctor for a sinus infection and I have been taking antibiotics and pretizone. The soreness has gotten better but not gone. You thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
-Probably the toe work boots size needs to be changed.
-The relief in week end was due to rest... you need resttill thr pain resolves completely.
-The relief after your antibiotic course was with prednisone... which is known medicine foe releiving inflammation in joints.
-Please do not start tsking the medicine yourself, yiuneedorthopedic surgeons advise to confirm the type of joint swelling and then start with medication &rest to get full relief .. to befillowed byphysiothrapy toavoid recurrance.

Thanks.
