How Can Pain And Swelling On The Hip Be Treated?

i fell over on ice 8 days ago. i hit my hip. i had a large bruise and some pain. the bruise has grown and grown and is the hugest bruise i have seen. the initial area is very red, swollen and hot to touch. it hurt a lot when i stand up and limp for a while because of the pain, but can walk normally after a minute or so. people are telling me i should go to get it checked out. i dont think i ve broken anything but i am concerned about the site on impact and how swollen and painful it is. do i really need to go and sit in A&E for hours of should i just go to the doctors where she ll say its nothing?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
There are many reasons that cause hip pain. It can be arthritis, sciatica pain etc
To diagnose is necessary to do some examinations such as an xray or ct scan.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Rest:at least 24 to 48 hours.
-Ice. Applying an ice pack to the area where you’re feeling the pain can reduce inflammation and make your hip feel better.
-Compression:wrappe a thick bandage around the pelvis and hip.
-Elevate:Elevating a painful joint can reduce swelling and help relieve pain.
-Use pain relievers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen in tablets, gels or creams
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
