How Can Pain Behind The Right Tonsil Be Treated?

I have severe pain when i drink certain things, (soda pop) right behind by right tonsil. This pain has been there for 3 months. I saw an EENT dr., he scoped by nasal pharangeal area and said there was nothing, just normal lymphatic tissue. I dont think he saw the area behind the tonsil. Now It is worse than ever. No sore throat, no redness. Just this one area. Next appt with the dr. is on 3-18. What can i do right now regarding the pain?

Hi,

Your symptoms of pain behind right ear on swallowing only and not at other times can be due to the following reason. The commonest cause I can think about is Eagle's syndrome in which there is deposition of calcium in the styloid process to stylohyoid ligament. This causes pain while swallowing. I would advise you the following:
* Insist for CT scan of the affected area as this is the only diagnostic tool
* Palpitation with gloved finger can help confirmation
* A course of an anti-inflammatory medicine should help you
* If not then surgery to remove this elongation will help you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
