How Can Pain In The Leg Due To Sciatica Be Treated?

My brother has sciatica pain in the r leg from the hip down. Can hardly stand due to the pain. It came out of nowhere a week this Tuesday. He lifts heavy at work and is in good shape as he is in the gym 4 to 5 x a week. A local internist saw him on Wed and gave him muscle relaxers and anti inflammants. He has not had much relief. He did not have any initial back pain to support an acute injury. It just sort of showed up after a days work when he woke up the next day. What should we do next? Consult a Neuro Dr. to have an MRI?

Yes if the pain is too much please get a MRI done as early as possible and see a neurosurgeon. If there has been a disc extrusion surely a neurosurgeon should be able to help you
