How Can Pain In The Legs Be Managed While On Gabapentin?

I know gabapentin can cause muscle pain, weakness and other things like this when increased to higher doses can it also cause weight gain? Started on 200mg tid increased to 400 mg tid and then 800mg tid for diabetic neuropathy pain in feet. but leg pain and muscle fatigue and pain has been terrible with the last increae where I would much rather have the neuropathy in my feet.sh

Hello,

Though Gabapentin can cause weight gain but I don't think the pain in your legs is being caused by it. Gabapentin is in fact given to treat pain caused by diabetic neuropathy.

If you still have any doubts regarding it you can consult your physician regarding the same. You can try switching over to Pregablin drug which is also effective in treating diabetic neuropathy.

Also start taking Methylcobalamine drug which helps in alleviating nerve pain. Get your blood sugar repeated to see whether it is within normal limits.
