How Can Pain In The Upper Abdomen And Nausea Be Treated?

HI I am a healthy 52 year old woman, but have a high stressed job as I am the Corporate Receptionist/Office Manager in a university. Over the last 4 days/nights I have experienced pain in my upper abdomen when I eat or drink anything of a burning sensation. I have been sweating profusely at night and suffering terrible nausea. The nausea keeps me awake for hours. I seem to be ok passing stools they are not black or tarry but I seem to have the gastritis or helibactor p infections symptoms. I feel full and bloated after I eat anything and I burp a lot. I have a history of helibactor and IBS but I have never had nausea or burning stomach before.

Hello,

Your symptoms are indicating gastritis. The hyper production of acidic fluid of the stomach during night is causing you to feel nauseated.

However, if I was your caring doctor would recommend to run a few diagnostic tests such as:

- abdominal ultrasound to check all the internal organs to rule out gallbladder problems too
- upper endoscopy to rule out ulcer
- H.pylori breath or stool test
- complete blood count
- liver/kidney/pancreas function test
- urine analysis

After getting the results, can discuss for best treatment strategy. For the moment, I advise to:

- have your meals regularly, do not skip them
- take antacids after eating
- avoid oily/spicy/chilly foods.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
