How Can Pain On The Big Toe Be Treated?

I recently recovered from gout on my right big toe. It was very painful and took about three weeks before I could do any normal walking. After three weeks on colchicine I am back to walking distances albeit still with tenderness in my toe. Now my knuckles in my left hand hurt and are slightly swollen. It hurts to pick up a pillow! My uric acid test was 7.2 and I have stopped eating shell fish but I am wondering if I have gout or simply arthritis. Is there a definitive test?

Hi,

In fact, the confirmatory test for gout is to take out some Fluid from the involved joint and analyse it. However this may not be always necessary as some times picture is clear.

Similar is your case I think with these uric acids and such typical history this looks like gout and the confirmatory test may not be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
