Welcome to HCM!

Early pancreatitis can be treated with pancreatic enzymes to help you better digest your food. Some clients use bromelain or papain. The pain spasms might be relieved by peppermint oil. I like to see my patients on lipase, amylase and protease. These come over the counter.

Some dietary suggestions are: take water soluble forms of A,D,E,K as these are usually absorbed as fat and with you fat malabsorption is a risk. Use a low fat diet, no alcohol at all, soft meats, low fiber, eat fatty fish or take omega 3 supplements and add tuna, other fish to diet including the use of flaxseed (can retrieve essential fatty acids from flaxseed).

If blood sugar gets too high, advise seeking out a dietitian for a carbohydrate controlled diet. Zinc may also become low.

Bloating may also be relieved by using lactose free milk, taking a pill to break lactose down if you do consume dairy. Substitute milk with almond milk or lactaid milk.

Avoid gassy vegetable such as broccoli and cabbage.

If you eat starchy beans, soak overnight, drain the water and refill. This process gets rid of the stuff that causes gas and bloating.

Most of your bloating comes from undigested food from a sick pancreas that is unable to produce enzymes to break down your food products.
