How Can Painful Hernia In The Groin Area Be Treated?

My father is nearly 90 years old, and has what appears to be a hernia in his lower right groin area - I have taken him to his primary care doctor who said he was too old to have surgery, and basically gave pain meds as the alternatives (Tylenol 2). It has gotten worse since then, and he is in a lot of pain -- I felt the protuberance myself -- he is seeing a surgeon on Monday -- he also has dementia and is very unclear about what is happening around him (except the pain) -- what are recourses other than surgery at his age?

Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

Once pain develops ,it indicates strangulation of hernia. This can lead to intestinal obstruction, peritonitis. So prompt surgical management is required.

Hope this answers your question
