How Can Painful Osteoporosis Be Treated?

I am a 44 year old woman who was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis over 10 years ago.I recently had a bad fall down a whole flight of basement steps and shattered my hip and broke my femur in multiple places. This happened on November 10 of 2016 and I had my surgery the next day.The doctor had to put. All my bones back together with plates ,screws, and rods and pulled the rest of the bone out.The surgery took 7 hours instead of 1 and a half. She told me my osteoporosis was so bad she didn t think the rods and things would hold up.She then had me bare absolutely no weight on it for months. Then she started me with physical therapy but only put weight on it as tolerated.Well it was the 2nd day into my therapy and the therapist wanted me to balance myself on my bad leg and holt for 20 sec,and I left her know that that was very painful!!So she told me to rest a few minutes and do it again, and I again told her it was very painful agan!!After that I called my doctor up and told her what happened So now I see her March 7.Also my bones are not completely healed yet.I am in severe pain and was wondering can the plates, screws, and rods come lose because my bones are so soft??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
